Indian Point

The Village of Indian Point is located in the Table Rock Lake Watershed. Table Rock Lake is a large reservoir in southwest Missouri, serving as the focal point of a major tourism industry for the region. The water quality in the reservoir is the highest of any reservoir in the state, so it has become an important destination for fisherman and other outdoor recreational enthusiasts. However, water quality in the lake has slowly declined.

The geology of the watershed is typical of the Ozarks Plateau, and consists of thin, poor soils over limestone bedrock. Unfortunately, the thin soils provide little treatment for septic tank effluent, so in many cases wastewater from poorly functioning septic systems enters the reservoir with very little treatment. Previous studies have shown that the principal culprits affecting the lake's water clarity and algal biomass levels are nutrients, specifically nitrogen and phosphorous.

This project serves as a national demonstration of our advanced decentralized wastewater treatment technologies.
